George Floyd Case and US Protests: State & Society on Question of Racism, Social Inequality and Human Dignity

The death of George Floyd, a 46-year old African American, on May 25th caused by a white policeman kneeling on his neck ignited a wave of protests across the USA. The death is a reflection of unlimited police brutality and has exposed the practice of extreme racism in American society. It has ignited protests across the world under the movement ‘Black Lives Matter. The issue is a wake-up call for those who support right-wing politics and white supremacy. It also flags similar, probably even worse forms of discrimination like casteism in countries like India. Discrimination on the basis of colour, race, and work is an extreme affront to human dignity and completely unacceptable in the 21st Century.

The panel looks at the issues of Racism, Social Inequality, and Human Dignity in the backdrop of George Floyd protests and the lessons for societies across the world,
