Dr P M. Nair, IPS (Retd) is a police officer with the Indian Police Service since 1978. After 35 years of service in the IPS in various capacities in Bihar, CBI, NHRC, UNODC, CRPF, etc., he retired on 31st May 2013 as the Director-General of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Director General of Civil Defence, Government of India. He served in Bihar for more than 15 years in various capacities from SP to IG.  He served in CBI for 10 long years and has handled several crimes including the Rajiv Gandhi assassination, the ISRO Espionage case, the International Arms drop at Purulia, Sanjay Ghose abduction, terrorist crimes, human rights violations and many interstates and international organized crimes, including human trafficking. With the first crime of child trafficking for labour investigated by him in 1982, his avowed mission of preventing and combating human trafficking is continuing to move ahead with zeal, speed, and impact. Dr Nair worked with CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force, the prime agency of the Government of India to address Internal Security issues across the country) for more than 7 years. 

He holds an MA in Sociology, LLB, and PhD in Victimology, Dr Nair is a powerful voice in the Anti-Human Trafficking mission and child rights in the region. He is continuing his mission of empowering vulnerable persons by undertaking skill-building programmes and thereby preventing human trafficking. Until recently he was TATA Chair Professor with TISS, and continues to be an Advisor to Chairperson, National Skill Building Mission.
