Dr S Venkatraman is a Senior Fellow at The Peninsula Foundation. He has an M.A. and MPhil from Univ. of Madras, MPhil from Cambridge University, UK and a PhD from The London School of Economics, UK. He is trained and has worked extensively in the field of Social Research, Development Economics, ICT for development, Policy Research, Sector Planning and Management, Skill Assessment, Monitoring & Evaluation, Sustainable Development, Market Research, Heritage and Culture studies.
He currently works as Senior Consultant in the Education Sector of UNESCO. He has also worked with other UN agencies such as UNICEF (India), UNICEF Regional office for the Asia Pacific in Bangkok, UNRWA (Jordan) and UNHCR (Jordan). He worked with UNESCO for over 15 years in various UNESCO offices including UNESCO Institute for Statistics in Montreal, Canada,UNESCO Regional Office for Asia Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand, UNESCO Regional office for Eastern Africa in Nairobi, Kenya.
He also works as International Consultant to The Asian Development Bank (ADB). He is currently preparing assessment of the Monitoring & Evaluation System of the Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka as part of ADB’s funding of the Education Sector Development Plan-II of the Ministry of Education in Sri Lanka.
In the past, Dr. Venkatraman worked as consultant to The World Bank; Ford Foundation, DFID, and UNFPA, Govt. of India and several state governments including Govt. of Kerala and Govt. of Tamilnadu. Prior to joining UNESCO he worked as Head of Research in Media and Communication Centre of School of Communication Studies at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
He has published widely in International journals and has authored chapters and books, edited books, prepared analytical reports, baseline and end line evaluation reports for UN agencies and donor organizations.
